What lightweight insulating concrete is
Lightweight insulating concrete, or LWIC, is a cementitious material made with lightweight aggregate or cellular foam in place of ordinary stone. Poured over a structural or steel deck, it forms an insulating, fire-resistant layer that also provides slope to drain and a sound base for the roofing membrane above.
Why it matters on commercial roofs
On large commercial and institutional buildings, LWIC offers a combination that is hard to match: built-in thermal performance, the ability to shape positive drainage across a wide roof, and a durable substrate that works with a range of membrane systems. Done well, it extends the service life of the whole assembly.
David Gembala’s focus
Lightweight insulating concrete is central to David Gembala’s professional profile. His commercial roofing work, his patent record, and his company background all connect back to LWIC and the practical engineering of insulated, long-lasting roof systems.
